There are some weeks that seem to be longer than others. Am I right? And, as the holiday season creeps up on us, I feel those longer weeks become more frequent which is why I want to share with you six ways I re-energize during midweek blues. These tips are great for the business owner, for your kiddos, and for yourself. As you read through this I want to remind you that it’s okay to rest. Especially us biz owners and parents who are doing all the things this year. It’s okay to breathe and just have YOU time for a bit. You don’t need permission to take a break or permission to take care of you. This year has been a doozie, my friend. Know you’re not alone when it comes to midweek (or just this whole year) blues.
Get Outdoors
I. Love. Being. Outside. The outdoors truly can do wonders for the soul. Whether you go to your local park to walk a trail or walk around your neighborhood, there’s just something about fresh air and “breaking out” of your four walls that instantly make you feel better. And, if you’re anything like me, and love plants going to your local nursery to pick a new plant (or three!) to add to your garden is also therapeutic.
Watch Your Diet Our mood and our energy levels have a lot to do with what we are feeding our bodies. If those midweek blues are hitting you harder than they have in the past, I recommend looking at your midday snacks. A few of my favorite energy boosting snacks are: apples with peanut butter, veggie sticks and hummus, string cheese with whole wheat crackers, cashews and almonds, greek yogurt with berries and local honey, and even popcorn makes a good energy boost snack. And, just as my mama would ask… “Have you had any water today?”
Turn the Screens Off Tired of the headache that just won’t go away? Turn the computer, phone and TV off for at least an hour. Bring out the board games, go walk your pup, or take the time to fold the clothes that are still in the dryer. Now you may be thinking, “Tiffany, I’m a photographer and I have a pile of client galleries that I need to wrap up editing and get sent out.” I get that. We have paying clients who are expecting us to deliver a product. But, here’s the thing…are you delivering your absolute best product when your head is pounding and all you want to do is close your eyes? Nope! Take a break, my fellow photography biz owner.
Date Night with Your Loved One No matter how introverted you might be, we still crave human interaction. I find that sometimes when things start to irritate me quicker than usual it’s because I haven’t had time to just sit and talk with my husband. If this you, take the time to schedule a date night. It doesn’t have to be dinner. You could go bowling, play mini golf, or just go to the grocery store without your kids.
Mani/Pedi Cure All Girls day anyway? Sign me up! There’s nothing like getting pampered to feel 10x better than you did before you walked in the nail salon.
Pick Up the Clutter A clean house makes me function better during the week and makes my overall mood better towards my kiddos (and husband). Any mamas with me on this??? Take 15 minutes in the evening to pick up your office space, do the dishes, or fold the laundry. I promise waking up to a clean space in the morning will not only make you feel better but it’ll increase your productivity for the day, too. There you have it… my top six ways I get through those weeks that seem to have five Mondays. Tell me what do you do to re-energize during the midweek blues? Let me know below in the comments!
