The Benefits of Having a Home Branding Session

In this blog post I’m going to be talking about the benefits of choosing to have your branding photo shoot in your own home.

One of the things that can put business owners off investing in branding photography is not knowing where to have the shoot.

They often rule out having the shoot in their own home as they assume that they need to have a gorgeous show home with no clutter and floor to ceiling windows. You’ll be pleased to hear that’s definitely not the case!

Sometimes your home just isn’t right for a shoot – perhaps you are in the middle of renovations, or you’ve just bought your home and haven’t yet decorated it in your style.

In which case, don’t worry! I have lots of suggestions for locations I love to shoot in.

So assuming your home is ready to shoot in, let’s have a look at some of the benefits to having a branding shoot in your own home…

1. Your home is likely to be on brand

If you run a business where you are the face of it – such as a coach, photographer, florist, jewellery designer etc – your brand should represent you.

You ideally don’t want your brand to be bold and colorful if you only ever wear grey and your home is white from top to bottom!

If you’re obsessed with bold colors, then it’s likely you’ll want your branding, your clothes and your home to be colorful or using pops of color. Or perhaps you absolutely love the clean and minimalistic style – it’s likely your brand will be like this and so will your home.

This means that we don’t have to seek out a venue that is perfectly on brand for you – it’s already on your doorstep. Much easier!

This branding shoot with rozkincaid is a perfect example of this. Roz's style is elegant and neutral and her clothes and home epitomised this style perfectly.

2. You can incorporate your hobbies and interests

A brilliant bonus to having a branding shoot in your home is that you have all of your favorite things to hand.

It’s not enough now to just have a few photos for your website. You need photos that tell a story about who you are and why you do what you do.

When planning your shoot, we think about the kind of photos that you will want to use on social media to connect with your audience.

This shoot with rozkincaid is a great example of this. We incorporated her love for reading into the shoot, her enjoyment of where her podcast happens and her love for her business.

3. You’ll feel comfortable

Some people can feel nervous about having their photo taken in a public space if there are people around. At home you don’t need to worry about that, it’s just you and me in the place you feel most comfortable.

You can send me phone pics and/or a video of your home beforehand so I can see where the best light is and we can decide where we’re likely to be shooting.

Then you don’t need to tidy up everywhere (and I promise no judgement from me if you have everything that was on your desk stacked up in the corner! )

I hope this post has inspired you to think about the venue for your next branding shoot.

If you’re currently looking for a branding photographer, give me a ring and lets make magic!

The great thing about doing the shoot at your home is that you end up with a large variety of images. We can shoot at your desk, at your kitchen table, on your sofa, your garden and in the streets surrounding your house or a local park.

You’ll end up with a gorgeous set of images to use throughout the year – you’ll never be stuck for what to post on Instagram again!
